On May 19th and 20th 2006, Student Pugwash Rockefeller University will be hosting its second annual regional conference with an emphasis on the complex topics surrounding mental health. Like with many other topics, Student Pugwash attempts to integrate the knowledge gained by basic research with its applications and social and political implications. We are assembling lawyers, sociologists as well as scientists to discuss topics such as: patient choice in Alzheimer’s, peer perception amongst children with autism, and the constitutional impact of laws that force the mentally ill into inappropriate treatments. Student Pugwash strives to create forums in which basic researchers can learn, question and challenge the use of their research in the public and private sectors, while also exposing policy makers to the basic research upon which they formulate laws and regulations. We suggest that anyone with a background in Neuroscience or an interest in topics relating to mental health attend this conference. Attendance is free of charge and meals will be provided to those who register.
