This month, Natural Selections features George K. Smith, Mailroom Clerk, Mail Room.
1. How long have you been living in New York? I’ve been living in New York all my life, which is a great place to live! 2. Where do you live? I live in Manhattan, but I sleep in the Bronx. So in other words, I don’t live in the Bronx at all, I just sleep there, but Manhattan is my life! 3. Which is your favorite neighborhood? Columbus Avenue. I grew up on Columbus Avenue and I have some very beautiful memories there. 4. What do you think is the most over-rated thing in the City? And under-rated? The MTA. The trains, buses, they’re over-rated, period! The most under-rated things are the people. There are some beautiful people that I know who have never received the respect and recognition they deserve. I consider them the most under-rated thing in this city. 5. What do you miss the most when you are out of town? The big city that never sleeps, I love that! When I’m out of town, I just can’t wait to get back to New York. I love this town. In fact, I am New York! 6. If you could change one thing about this city, what would that be? The mayor! In fact, I should be the mayor, and run New York my way. 7. Describe the perfect weekend in New York. Watching a movie and of course, shopping, downtown! I love to shop! Clothes, shoes, I love it all! 8. What is the most memorable experience you’ve had in New York City? I have two of them. As a child, my father would take my brother and me to Coney Island or the Central Park Zoo. And the other is Easter Sunday, as a kid, because we’d get all dressed up. We’d go to church and then go to the movies, and see a cartoon or something! It’s one of the most beautiful times I can remember as a kid. 9. If you could live anywhere else, where would that be? Westchester County, New York. And California… Hollywood! |
